Petra Cup

Staining the porcelain is a demanding technique. It is much easier if it is made of slip cast (liquid kaolin), but we went for wheel-thrown cups. That approach takes more focus and experience, but the result shows the narrow passage between the two failures every ceramist has to go through. It looks earthy, modest, and like it was won out over rough rock or lava. Carved lines filled with gold tell that story of a win of silence and gentleness.

The emerald green cup is middle-sized, and the lower half is unglazed. That makes it look rustic, and contrast with gold has a more substantial effect.

These cups match the saucers of the same design. Check them out here.
