I remember meeting Jana for the first time on one of my ceramics workshops in June. Her charisma was obvious. She was so relaxed and fun that it was contagious. That workshop will be remembered by lots of laughter and singing.
When she came again to pick up her pieces, I unintentionally and solely based on my intuition suggested her to work together on a one-off collection of wall plates. And she said yes!
Jana is passionate about letters. She creates fonts, teaches calligraphy at the university but above all she is eternally seduced by the power of writing. We both had so much fun making this collection of unique artisan porcelain hand-lettered wall plates.
The organic shape of my porcelain pieces reminded Jana of a great Italian chef Massimo Bottura and his philosophy of giving and sharing and noisy expression of design geniuses Marion Deuchars and James Victore as well. Talking about inspiration, we focused on that cozy feeling of communal dinning - sharing, having fun, enjoying good food and time with friends and family. It is another homage to the Mediterranean lifestyle and philosophy behind it.
Jana hand lettered all the plates with different messages in English, Italian, French and Serbian trying to express that same philosophy with letters and brush strokes.
She also signed each piece from this 30-piece limited edition.
This is us, posing in front of the wall in my shop&studio acting like first-graders. Unintentionally. The collection has its own place in the shop and it will be available form December 4 through out the whole month. Also, the collection will be available online here as of Dec 4 as well.
